Sitting among the traditional clapboard estates in the Hamptons is a property influenced more by feng shui than Cape Cod. Designed by Japanese artist Setsuo Ito in the 1980s, the four-cornered house was his primary residence until he sold it in 2011.

Situated on a large lot in central Water Mill, NY, the home is truly unlike anything else in the area, says Hans Escobar, member of the Private Client Team at Nest Seekers International. “It’s very unique,” Escobar said. “No matter what your taste is — it makes a statement.” A big enough statement, in fact, that the property attracted rapper Notorious B.I.G. The late artist used the property in his music video “Juicy.”

The Water Mill home sits on 9 acres surrounded by forest on one of the highest elevations in the area, allowing for views stretching to the water. But the most dominant feature of the 7-bedroom, 6.5-bath house is the 32-foot-high steel pyramid stretching above the pool area. Directly below, the open kitchen features a large fire pit and seating area — another part of the home that sets it apart.

What airport do you fly into to go to the Hamptons? https://hamptonsspectator.com/faq/what-airport-do-you-fly-into-to-go-to-the-hamptons/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=what-airport-do-you-fly-into-to-go-to-the-hamptons Sat, 18 Apr 2020 16:33:22 +0000 https://hamptonsspectator.com/?p=6366 The post What airport do you fly into to go to the Hamptons? appeared first on Hamptons Spectator.

If flying private there are a few options. Southampton’s Meadow Lane has a great helipad. The East Hampton airport is ideal for private planes as well as helicopters.

Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip is the closest airport to the various towns in the Hamptons (about 50 minutes from Southampton), but it is only serviced by Southwest Airlines and U.S. Airways. Larger airports like John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport are about one hour and 45 minutes from Southampton.

Whether flying or driving, you’ll need a car to see most of the Hamptons. Rent a car after landing, or pack up your own, and head out to the Hamptons via NY-27 East, or I-495 East (also known as the Long Island Expressway). Once in Southampton, Montauk Highway is the main road that will take you through each of the villages and towns.

The Hampton Jitney is also available for getting to and from the Hamptons from New York City and the airports year-round, though travel time is longer due to the multiple stops on the route. Tickets vary per distance traveled, though prices are reduced if purchased online in advance.

Sag Harbor is an incorporated village in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The village developed as a working port on Gardiner’s Bay. The entire business district is listed as the historic Sag Harbor Village District on the National Register of Historic Places. A major whaling and shipping port in the 19th century, by the end of this period and in the 20th century, it became a destination for wealthy people who summered here. Some writers and artists also settled here. Sag Harbor is about three fifths in Southampton and two fifths in East Hampton. Its landmarks include structures associated with whaling and its early days when it was designated as the first port of entry to the new United States. It had the first United States custom house erected on Long Island.

Montauk is known by many Long Island residents as “The End.” This is because it is the easternmost point of the island and New York state. Montauk has a rich history. It is named after the Native American Montaukett tribe that fished, hunted, raised cattle, and lived on this land.

Is Westhampton considered the Hamptons? https://hamptonsspectator.com/faq/is-westhampton-considered-the-hamptons/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=is-westhampton-considered-the-hamptons Sat, 18 Apr 2020 16:14:59 +0000 https://hamptonsspectator.com/?p=6356 The post Is Westhampton considered the Hamptons? appeared first on Hamptons Spectator.

The Hamptons are technically made up of only two townships: The Town of Southampton and the Town of East Hampton. However, each of those townships includes smaller villages and hamlets with their own zip codes, school districts, and personalities.

Southampton Town also includes the hamlets of Eastport, Speonk, and Remsenburg, but these towns are not usually considered to be part of the Hamptons.

There are a lot of social nuances in the Hamptons. To most locals, “The Hamptons” begins at Southampton and ends at Montauk. Which is an unpopular opinion to those who live in Westhampton and would like to included under this umbrella. When if I ever have a client looking to purchase a home on the East End, wants to enjoy the best ocean spots, but doesn’t care to be around the glitz, I find Westhampton and Quogue to be the absolute best.

Swimming in the ocean is seasonal, and The Hamptons‘ beaches are open only weekends and holidays starting Memorial Day until the last Saturday in June. … You can surf and boogie-board from any of The Hamptons‘ beaches, but the Montauk beaches at the end of the fork are best for these sports due to several reef breaks.
